Questions
Everything owners ask, answered.
28 questions about cost, contracts, PEOs, payroll providers and what actually happens day to day. If yours is not here, call (346) 236-1597 and ask it directly.
Getting started
Book a twenty minute call, or ring (346) 236-1597. You describe what is landing on your desk, Brandi tells you what she would take on and roughly what it costs. If it makes sense you get a written proposal with scope and price, and nothing happens until you agree to it.
You will get a realistic start date on the first call once we know the scope. Urgent employee situations we help with straight away, even while the wider arrangement is still being agreed.
No, and most clients do not. Plenty start with one project or one situation, see how it goes, then decide. Starting small is a perfectly sensible way to find out whether this works for you.
Brandi will say so on the call. Telling a business owner they do not need you yet costs one conversation. Selling them something they are not ready for costs the relationship.
Most sit between five and a hundred and fifty employees. Below five there is usually not enough happening to justify it. Above a hundred and fifty you are generally at the point where hiring in house makes more sense, and we will tell you when we think you have reached it.
What you actually get
The day to day HR function: employee questions, employee relations, documentation, payroll coordination, benefits administration, compliance and recruiting support. The exact scope is agreed in your proposal rather than assumed, so you know what is in and what is not.
Brandi. That is the point of the business. If HR People grows to a size where that stops being literally true, you will be told before it happens rather than after.
If you want them to. Some owners prefer we coach them and stay in the background, others want us as the first point of contact for the whole team. Both work and it is your call.
Most service plans include access to our client platform at no additional cost. It organises HR tasks, documents, recruiting, onboarding, reminders and requests. It is there to support the service, not to replace the payroll or HR systems you already use.
Yes, and it is one of the three ways we work. We add expertise and capacity alongside your office manager, administrator or HR coordinator. Nobody is being replaced, and we will say that plainly to them as well as to you.
Cost and contracts
Ongoing support is a monthly fee based on headcount and scope. Projects are quoted as a fixed price before any work begins. You will have real numbers on the first call rather than after a discovery process, and if we are not a fit for your budget we will tell you then.
No. Ongoing support is month to month. If you stay because you are locked in rather than because it is working, that is not a client relationship worth having.
No setup fee for ongoing support. If a piece of work sits outside the agreed scope we will tell you before doing it and quote it separately, so nothing appears on an invoice that you have not already agreed to.
Yes. Handbooks, HR audits, job descriptions, compensation studies, recruiting projects, onboarding programmes, performance review programmes, policy development, investigations, restructuring, HR system implementation and manager training are all common as standalone projects.
You give notice and we hand everything back in an organised state: your documents, your files, your records. Nothing is held hostage. A business that leaves on good terms sometimes comes back, and always tells other owners how it went.
PEOs, payroll and your providers
No. HR People provides outsourced HR management and administrative support while you remain the employer of your employees. There is no co employment arrangement. We work alongside your existing payroll, benefits and HR technology providers rather than requiring you to move into a co employment model.
No. HR People is designed to work with the payroll provider you already use, whether that is ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, Gusto, QuickBooks Payroll or another. We help manage the HR information, employee changes, follow up and coordination surrounding payroll while your provider handles the processing.
We do not require clients to use a proprietary payroll system. We work with the systems your business already uses and coordinate payroll administration, employee changes and provider communication.
Yes. We coordinate with your benefits broker and carriers on enrollment, life events, changes and questions. We are not a broker ourselves and earn no commission on your insurance, so there is nothing in any recommendation for us.
It is a real project rather than a switch. Your employees move back onto your EIN, you take on payroll and benefits directly, and there are timing considerations around the plan year. We can tell you honestly whether it is worth doing in your case.
Working together day to day
Phone or email, directly. Not a ticket queue and not a shared inbox with a case number. During urgent situations, call rather than email.
Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Central. Genuinely urgent employee situations outside those hours are handled as they come rather than by a rule.
Same business day for anything normal. Immediately for anything urgent. If something will take longer than that because it needs research or a legal opinion, you will be told that rather than left waiting.
No, and we will not pretend otherwise. We are HR practitioners. When a matter requires specialised legal advice we help identify the issue and coordinate with employment counsel, which usually makes their time cheaper because the groundwork is already done.
Nobody can honestly say that, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Requirements change, businesses change and people make mistakes. What we can do is remove the known gaps, keep documents current and make sure that when something is questioned you have a record that holds up.
Confidentiality and records
Brandi, and only what is needed to do the work. We are not selling data, building a marketing list or sharing anything with third parties beyond the providers you have told us to coordinate with.
In the client platform included with most plans, organised so your records are in one place rather than scattered across inboxes. If you would rather keep documents in your own systems, that works too.
They are yours and you get them back in an organised state. That is the answer whatever the reason for leaving.
No questions match that. Try a different word, or call (346) 236-1597 and ask.
Still not answered?
Twenty minutes, no pitch. Ask the question directly and get a straight answer, including when the honest answer is that we are not the right fit.
